Busy Life

I know I say it quite often, but life is really busy in the Ambrose household. Between every day work, ballet teaching, church callings, the Army Reserves, and having fun family adventures our days are quite packed!

There's a lot in life right now, but one of the biggest things is the fact that Daelynn (my baby sister!) is getting married in June. I'm planning her wedding and it is different than the other two weddings I have planned by far. It's been very frustrating at times but also fun. I love putting together the visions in my head and I'm hoping that everything will turn out how I envision it. :)

We're also dealing with many other things that I won't go into detail on here, but our families are struggling. Life is really hard sometimes and we seem to have found a rough patch. Overall we're doing really well, but there are some days that life is just really hard and I wish that people could be more considerate, more understanding, or just have more common sense then they exhibit.

Beyond that, life is really good. We went to Disneyland in February (I promise I'll post about it soon!) and I'm brainstorming some fun things for us to do this summer. I also really want to go to Virginia sometime soon so I can see my family on their turf and say goodbye to my Grandpa McCue. He's not doing well and we really don't know when he'll go, but he's in so much pain and so unhappy that we really hope that his time won't be long. I want to be able to see him one more time, but if it doesn't happen it will be okay because he'll be reunited with my grandma AND he won't be suffering any longer.

Anyways, that's all for now. I really want to update you more and I will try to get this blog updated with our adventures. I start to get to close to being updated and then life happens and I get all behind again. :P  But never fear, someday I will be caught up! Maybe!

Until next time my friends! :D

a new year, a new us....

At the beginning of the year Allan and I sat down and decided on some "goals" of where we wanted to be a year from now.

This is kinda hard to write down and it makes sense in my head, so let's see if I can get this out right. Pretty much we decided what kind of life we wanted. Some of the things discussed were kids, our living arrangement, work, our bodies, money, etc.

We then decided to focus on a few areas and make goals that would help us improve. So we made goals - Emotional/Social goals, Healthy-Lifestyle goals, Money goals, and Spiritual goals. I'm really excited for our goals and where they will put us at the beginning of next year. :o)

So.....here they are, our 2014 family goals:

  • workout every morning
  • go dancing once a month
  • have a combined FHE once a month
  • kneeling couple praryer morning and night
  • study the Old Testament as a couple
  • be WorldMark debt free
We have a purpose/ultimate goal/lifestyle that we want due to the result of these six goals this year. I'm so grateful for a partner that wants to succeed and will sit down and talk with me about these kinds of things. It makes me happy.

Happy New Year!

End of an Era

We interrupt my little 31 for 31 challenge posts with a post about life.

Today is the end of an era around these parts. See....I'm leaving my current employment - a place where I have been for four and a half years to move on to other things.

See, back at the end of May Allan was basically handed a new job that was what he was doing when we were dating just as a civilian contractor instead of being on military orders. Even though it's way up North - it was a 30% increase in income and would help further his career. Allan took the job and started June 1st.

I had looked around and interviewed a little bit here and there for new opportunities, but nothing ever seemed to work out. Shortly after Allan took his new job we had a conversation about what we want for our future and what not. Commuting is not something either of us enjoy, so soon after Allan started working, I started applying for jobs in the same area as Allan's employment. I had 1 phone interview (which didn't work out because the job paid a lot less than I was willing to accept), 1 in person interview (which is slightly comical and I knew I didn't get the job before I even left the office) and THEN I had this amazing interview at for a job and I felt SO GOOD about it. They offered me the job 2.5 weeks ago and I start August 1st!

I'm so excited for my new job opportunity and the wonderful things that will come from this job. I'll get the chance to learn and grow some more and use the skills I already have to help out my new employer. It's going to be good and it feels so right.

Today is my last day at my current job. I've been here for so long and it's been my second home that it feels weird to be leaving it. Kind of like leaving behind school and my single life in a lot of ways. Even though I got married while at this job - it still feels like it's tied to my single life/post college days in so many ways. I'm excited to start a new adventure and get to create my identity as a married woman - my maiden name won't really ever come up. :o) (not that I don't love being connected to my maiden name - it's an identity thing though...)

ANYWAYS.

Changes abound in our household and it's fun and exciting. I keep trying to imagine life five-ten years down the road and it's just so weird to think about. I'm so excited to spend the rest of my life figuring things out with my best friend. :o)

Ciao y'all!

P.S. Only 8 more sleeps without my husband. :o) He'll get home on my 2nd day of work of my new job. woo hoo!

life in general

Life is crazy. I kind of feel like I've been through a good processor this week. Granted, the moments when the food processor has been stopped have been great ones. :o) But I am so ready for the weekend and everything it is bringing me!

We've had Lindy for the past week or so while her mom was out of town. We potty trained. :P Let me tell you what, I never expected to get married and then 4 weeks later trying to get a very strong-willed 3-yr old potty trained. It was fun times. :) Lindy is on her way, not perfect at it yet, but on her way and that's a good thing.

In other news I am officially associated with the military with my spousal military i.d. and being put onto Allan's health insurance. It's good times.

This weekend Allan and I don't HAVE to do anything so we're going to fill the weekend with loads of fun things. We're going to ride around on his motorcycle, take a walk/hike (probably to Bridal Veil) and go dancing up in Salt Lake. The weather is supposed to be just perfect and I am so stoked to take full advantage of the sunshine. My emotional well-being needs an overload of Vitamin-D.

That's about all I got - next week I'm hoping to get some wedding posts up - our vendors were seriously AWESOME and I can't wait to tell you everything about everything. ;) So look forward to that. In the mean time, eat some swedish fish. That's what I'm doing. ;)

Ciao!

Time

I have been thinking a lot about time as of late. It's interesting to me how at times time seems to fly by and yet at the same exact time it seems to crawl. Someone commented on my Facebook post about this that I notice this phenomenon because of an upcoming wedding....and they're probably right.

However, I have noticed it at other times in my life. I think it comes from being fairly busy day to day with all the different things going on and on in life. Pair that with the excitement of something big (or even little) coming up, some event that I'm looking forward to and thus you have the fast/slow conundrum of time.

You know what I just though? "Sheldon Cooper would get a kick out of my philosophical thinkings right now. I bet he would have some scientific explanation...." ha ha ha ha. I love the Big Bang Theory.

Anyways. That's all. Life is good. Sometimes it seems to be going by fast and at other times it seems to be crawling by (like right now! Took my ring in to get it re-sized so I'm not afraid of it falling off and I have to wait until SATURDAY to get it back. I want it to be Saturday NOW.)

Hope y'all have a great day!

P.S. Look for the upcoming goal re-cap post (with pictures? perhaps!) and a few other fun things that I have up my sleeve. :o) Ciao!

Once Upon A Time....

I got engaged!!!!!

That's right! It's officially official! I'm getting MARRIED!!!! I am so excited and stoked to get to marry my best friend. Last night was AMAZING.

It all started shortly after we both got home from work, Allan suggested that we go to the Blue Iguana for  dinner. This restaurant holds a lot of memories for us as it is one of the places we went near the very beginning of our relationship (before we were officially dating, in fact). The food was delicious as always.

After dinner Allan suggested that we go to the Gallivan Center Outdoor Ice Skating Rink. This was something we had seen as an idea to do this weekend, and I was so excited to get to do that with him. :o)

At one point I gave Allan a really hard time about not having a ring yet...and he teased me by suggesting that it would happen up in his hometown because he knows the area better over there. Not five minutes later we were on the ice again "dancing" in the middle and he looked at me, told me he loved me and I said, "I love you too!" and he then said "really? well then...." and he got down on one knee pulled out my ring and asked me to marry him.
my ring. this picture doesn't do it justice. It is gorgeous!!
:) :) :) :) :)

I said yes and that folks, is how I got engaged to my best friend last night! I'm so excited to start the process of planning this wedding and start our life together. :)

on a whim...and otherwise

Hello there world! ( I feel just a little odd saying that, but oh well. it's there, and I'm not changing it.) I'm here....to tell you all of the wonderful adventures of my life. :o) Thus the title Adventures: On A Whim and Otherwise. I like to be spontaneous, and yet I'm a planner as well. :o) This leads to all sorts of fun adventures. :o)

I've been blogging for a long time...elsewhere (I'll talk about this later, I'm sure.) but I've felt that it is time to bring my real life and blogging worlds together. :o)

Anyways, first posts are always weird and awkward (at least, I think so) but I hope that this can turn in to something wonderful. Stay tuned for many more wonderful adventures....on a whim and otherwise. ;)
